Biking

Today, after it rained all morning and part of the afternoon, It got pretty nice out, so me and a friend went for a bike ride. We were out for about 3o minutes, but didn't go very fast. My HR was between 100-120 the whole time.

Moving

On Friday I helped move my friend into a different apartment. She lived on the third floor, so it was a lot of going up and down the stairs. I had my HR monitor on and my HR was all over the place. The highest number (125) was when we were carrying the couch up the stairs. By the end of the day, I was tired and sweaty. Felt like I just got done running 4 miles.

volleyball

Today I played volleyball outside with some friends. My HR was between 90-130. We did't play a very serious game....we just had fun for over an hour. After that, we shot some hoops and I found that my HR was a little bit higher than playing volleyball.

frisbee golf/ rollar blading

Friday was so nice out that I went frisbee golfing and rollar blading with some friends. I had my HR monitor on....and it was all over the place. My heart rate ranged from 80-120 throughout the day. It wasn't a very strenuous day...but fun and burned a good amount of calories.

Outside

Finally, it is getting nice out to be able to run outside! The last two days I ran about 4 and a half miles in the sunshine. I wish i would have put some sunscreen on because my face actually got burned! The wind was going opposite directions the last two days. Yesterday i ran into the wind on the way back, and today I ran into the wind at the beginning. My heart rate was always around 150-165. When i was running into the wind though, the avg. HR was a little higher!

Kickboxing/plyometrics

This week on thursday, during cardio class we did some kickboxing for 50 minutes. It wasn't very hard, but it sure got me sweaty by the end of the workout. My heart rate stayed between 125-140. Also, in my strength and conditioning class, we did some plyometrics. That really gets the HR going due to the short bursts of high energy neeeded. My highest HR was 185!

Strength and Conditioning class

This week during our strength and cond. class, we had a lab that involved doing several speed and agility drills. My heart rate got up to 180 during one of the drills that involved sprinting, shuffling, and back-pedaling. Many of the drills were tiring and had my HR going pretty goood.

Interval training

For class on thursday, we did two minute interval training at 11 different stations. I worked up a good sweat after the first 4 stations. My heart rate was highest at about 150 during the jump rope station. Otherwise, my avg HR stayed around 120-130.

Basketball

Today I played a pretty competitive game of basketball with my friends. We played two twenty minute halves. The met for basketball is around 8. I burned around 340 calories playing basketball. It was a lot of fun, and we ended up winning by 4.

Dancing

Thursday we salsa danced for about an hour in class. I got pretty sweaty and tired toward the end of the period. The met for dancing is around 4.5. According to the equation, I burned around 288 calories. But, I didn't dance the entire time, so I probably burned less than 200 calories.

workout

Today, I again did a taebo tape and had a HR of around 120 the whole time. The highest was 152. I also went jogging on the treadmill for 25 minutes at 7mph. The met was 12 and i burned about 320 kcal. To me that seems like a lot of calories for only 25 minutes, but according to the calculations, that's right!

house cleaning

Yesterday for my job, I cleaned my boss's house. It took me almost 3 hours to clean. I have my HR monitor on and found that the avg hr was around 100. My highest was when I was vaccuuming and scrubbing the floor. It got up to 130. I also went on the stationary bike for 20 minutes at 10 mph. The met was between 5-6 and I burned about 130 kcal.

Bow Flexing

Before i left home, sat. night i went on our bow flex machine for 30 minutes. I tried to blog about this on sunday, but blackboard was down, so I hope this still counts for 5 extra credit points for blogging over spring break. Anyway, my heart rate stayed around 100 during my workout, and at max it was 108. I also went on the tread mill for 20 minutes at 7.3 mph and had a HR of around 145.

Spring Break

Well, considering i'm not lying on a beach or going skiing in CO like i did last year for Spring Break, I decided I mine as well keep up with my workout routine. I drove home for the week and since we have a treadmill, I decided to run on it yesterday. I started out jogging two miles at 7.3mph, then instead of running at a steady pace the rest of the time, i decided to try something different. I walked for 2 min. at 3.8mph then ran for 2 min. at 9mph. I continued to do this for 20 minutes. My heart rate was jumping around from 160-185 during the running part, and went down to around 120 during the walking parts. I enjoyed this workout quite a bit. Today my quads are a little sore, considering i'm not used to running at that fast of a speed! I think i'll try to do this once a week just to switch it up from my jogging routine.

jogging and biking

Yesterday I went on a stationary bike for 10 minutes at 10mph. My avg HR was 133. Then I hit the treadmill for 25 min. at 7 mph. HR for that was between 145-160. The last 5 min. i put on a 2% incline which increased my HR to 165. I took a one minute resting HR after I went on the treadmill and it went down from 155-85. Then I went back and did the bike for 10 more minutes and the treadmill for another 25 minutes. My heart rate stayed about the same for each. And again my resting HR after one minute was at 83.

back rubs

Last night me and my roomate were watching tv and gave each other back rubs. I was curious to see what my heart rate would be after I had given a 20 minute back rub. It started out at 68 and worked it's way to around 95-100. I didn't think it'd get that high, but we do give pretty intense massages!

Taebo

Yesterday I did a taebo workout tape with my heart rate monitor on. Every five minutes I looked to see how high or low my heart rate was. The lowest I saw it at was 90 and the highest was 155. Throughout the workout I'd guess my average was around 135-140. It was a good workout!

Week of Feb 4-10

Yesterday I ran on the treadmill for 30 minutes at a rate between 7 and 7.5 mph. My heart rate was between 130-150.

Week of Feb. 4-10

During class this week, we had to do a variety of warm-up activities. I kept track of my heart rate throughout each one, and found my highest heart rate was while we were playing tag, and I was the one chasing everyone. My heart rate was up to 205! My lowest heart rate I found was when we were doing the ball handling drills, it was 87.

Week of Jan28-Feb3

This week I also did the Astraud-Rhyming Cycle Ergometer Test. I had a high heart rate of 157 and my lowest was 142. There my predicted VO2 max was as low as 33.89! I think this test wasn't quite as accurate as the other one.

Week of Jan.28-Feb3

I did the Bruce Treadmill Protocol and had my highest heart rate at 179. When I figured out my predicted VO2 max, it was 53.04.

HNES 272

Chuck,
I know I am supposed to have two blogs in with my heart rate monitor ratings, but again, the Varsity Mart said the order did not come in yet so, as of now I STILL don't have a monitor. So, I was just wondering if by next week (if the order comes in) I could blog four times instead of two to make up for this week?

Thanks,
Danielle
